12th August - Simple Aeroplane

I am often asked to make planes and this is a rather simple and very quick plane I make, it is made from 3 balloons (4 if you include the clear one that) and if your in a real rush you can leave off the propeller and make it even faster but I don't like to do that too often.

7th July - Loch Ness Hairband

While at a recent balloon event I purchased some hair bands, I have never made a balloon hair band before and wanted to give it a go, I saw a few hair band designs made at the balloon event including one made by the multi award winning balloon modeller Colin which was similar to this head band design.

My Loch Ness hairband is made from 3 balloons, I started by creating the blue water from a 260 using a similar technique to the pinch line technique except I only used 1 balloon rather than 2. The monster is made from a 160 and his little Scottish hat is a scrap of a 260.

6th July - The Altea Rose

I made some roses last week but I much prefer this rose, it is called the Altea rose, invented by Antonio Becarus and named after his home town in Spain, I really like the look of this and I was so pleased that Antonio shared it last week at a balloon event, thanks Antonio

It is made from 3 balloons, all of them are 160s however you can make it with any sized balloons, in this version I used 2 for the flower and 1 for the stemYou can keep up to date with all the latest news and sculptures by heading over to Facebook -www.facebook.com/mydailyballoon and hitting the 'like' button.

4th July - Rosette

Well Its just a quick one today, I have had such a busy day and I didn't really get home until well after 11pm, and just finished making this as my clock hit midnight (phew, no pumpkins for me). I wanted to do something for American Independence Day today, I know I have a fair few viewers from the USA so I wanted to wish them all a very happy holiday and make a red, white and blue rosette (it occurred to me that this might look like something political, it was not intended to be, I just want to wish you all a happy holiday).

27th June - Lobster

The last few days I have been in Halesowen in Birmingham for a 2 day balloon event, it was brilliant and I learnt so much new stuff, it was not just new sculptures for me to make but also for some new twisting techniques. the highlight for me was the David Grist Memorial Lecture by Antonio Becarus from Spain.

One of the things Antonio taught us was the pinch line technique and I have used it in this sculpture of a lobster. I am not going to tell you what part of the sculpture is made using the pinch line technique but if your familiar with balloon modelling then you can probably work out which bit it is. Antonio was an excellent teacher and I thank you for sharing your knowledge.

My Lobster is made from 3 x 260s plus 2 bits of scrap balloon. I used 2 balloons for the tail and then 1 for the body and pincers, the bits of scrap balloon were used for the eyes.

2nd June - Mr Happy

This Mr Happy is not too difficult to make, you just need to practice your raisin twists, you need 2 raisin twists to make this chap, 1 for each arm, he is made from 1 x round balloon and 2 x 260s.

Today I am doing a live balloon sculpture at the Aspex Gallery in Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, it is to help celebrate the Camp Bestival Around the World Tour, between the hours of 11am and 2pm I will be creating my biggest sculpture of the year so far (at nearly 6 feet across and 5 feet tall, eeek) there will be lots of other activities taking place in the gallery and and you can find out more about it here - http://www.strong-island.co.uk/2013/05/30/camp-bestivals-around-the-world-kids-disco-tour/, The sculpture you can see online on Monday.

Yesterday I went to climb Milk hill in Wiltshire as part of another blog I am doing (which you can find here), In the past Milk hill became famous for its crop circles and UFO sightings, as today is Star Wars day (May the fourth be with you) I have decided to do something space themed and so here is one of the UFOs I didn't spot while climbing Milk hill.

It is made from 3 balloons, a 5" round, a 350 and a 260.

I have to thank Dan at KJ Entertainments for this one, I actually made it after copying his design to enter into a fun competition to see who can replicate the design the best, not sure how well I did but I can imagine this would go down really well at a pirate party. Thanks Dan

Its made from 3 balloons, a red 260, a silver 260 and a brown 360.

16th April - Rocking Horse

I was talking to Rikki last night and the subject of balloon rocking horses came up, we were discussing various ideas so I thought I would post this which is my version of a rocking horse.

This Rocking horse is made from 3 balloons, first I make the horse from a blue 260 balloon and then add in another 260 for the rocker, I then use a 160 for the mane and the tail.

2nd April - Owl Three

This is the third owl I have made, I had several comments about the last owl I made on 20th Feb , some people seemed to think it looked nothing like an owl, I have since been told it does look like an owl, but enough of that owl and on to this one.

This owl is totally my invention, It is made from 8 balloons in total, 5 balloons for the owl and 3 balloons for the branches, the owl is made from gold 260 balloons, 1 yellow 260, a black 260 and a white round balloon.

The branch is a 350, a 260 and a 160 with the help from a few special twists to join them together.

24th March - Daffodil

It seems Spring is struggling to fully arrive so I thought I would try and help out, This is a quick and simple daffodil made from 3 balloons, First I made the petals from a 160, then I added the middle bit (I think its called a corona?), finally I added a stem (which you cant really see).

13th March - Anchor

Living in a very nautical city I have been asked to make an anchor once or twice in the past, usually when I am working in the dock yard or in any nautical themed location. This anchor is made from various different sized balloon, firstly I took a black 260 sized balloon and made the ring ring at the top, then worked my way down to the bottom, adding another 260 for the arms and another fir the cross section at the top. The rope is a brown 160 sized balloon and the grey rings are also a 160.

Finally I made the outer ring, using 1 yellow and 1 blue 160 sized balloon I spiraled them together and used another blue 160 to join them together at the bottom.

It total this is made from 8 balloons, 5 for the Anchor and 3 for the outer ring, it took me about 30 mins to make but I was doing other things at the same time so I could do it a lot quicker if I needed to.

9th March - Ladybird

Its a fairly easy one today as I have just run in an off road race through forests, fields, mud, rivers, ponds, smoke and obstacles galore, its a ladybird (ahhh sweet) made of 3 balloons,

The red balloon is a heart, the eyes are a 260 and the feet (which you cant see) are a black 260 (which gets wrapped around the balloon making the black line.

26th February - Shark

This Shark is made of 3 balloons, first there is a grey 260 for the lips and part of the body, then another grey 260 for the fins and tail, finally I added in the teeth and eyes with a white 260. Its not the normal shark I would make when requested as its a lot more complicated but I like it.

25th February - Little Bear

I am home from the worlds largest magic convention in Blackpool with 3800 balloons purchased from various places. I made this little bear after seeing Graham make some other little bears on the balloon chat forum. He is made from 3 balloons, all 260s.
