11th August - Flower Face

This is an idea by Antonio Becarus, I saw him a few months ago and thought this was a clever and cute idea and a great way to use up all your scraps of balloon, there are actually 11 balloons being used here but 6 of those are scraps of left over balloon. I mainly used 260 balloons for this design, the only 2 which are not 260s are the main part of the pot which is a 360 and the base which is a Geo blossom.

10th July - Flower Hairband

I have been playing with hairbands a bit recently after purchasing a load from Roger at a recent balloon event, this one is made from 4 balloons (and a hairband). 6th July - The Altea Rose

I made some roses last week but I much prefer this rose, it is called the Altea rose, invented by Antonio Becarus and named after his home town in Spain, I really like the look of this and I was so pleased that Antonio shared it last week at a balloon event, thanks Antonio

5th July - Hummingbird

I was surfing the internet wondering what to make and I came across this Youtube video from Becky Thompson - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJnbzXLjVac, Becky was unsure as to whether a hummingbird has a tail, they do indeed have beautiful colourful tails which they use for balance while hovering, so I gave mine a bit of a different tail to the one Becky makes. This hummingbird was made from 5 x 160 balloons (the flower was another 2).

30th June - Bunch of Roses

This bunch of roses is fairly easy to make, the petals are made from 1 x 160 balloon, all the stems are made from 2 x 160 balloons, the bow is another 160, so this arrangement is made from just 6 balloons.

12th June - Mini Flowers

These little flowers are all made from 160 balloons, the whole thing stands less than 10" tall (25 cm) and it is made from 9 balloons.

31st May - Vase of Flowers

My Nan is arriving tomorrow and staying for the week so to brighten up the spare room I made her some flowers in a vase, it is a vase of 8 flowers and the whole thing is made from 17 balloons. 

The vase is made from 4 x 260s and I put a round balloon into the base filled with water for a bit of stability, you can't see this balloon.

The flower stems are made from 4 green 160s and the flowers are 8 x 160s.

Coming up on June 2nd, I will be doing a live balloon sculpture at the Aspex Gallery in Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, it is to help celebrate the Camp Bestival Around the World Tour, between the hours of 11am and 2pm I will be creating my biggest sculpture of the year so far (at nearly 6 feet across and 5 feet tall, eeek) there will be lots of other activities taking place in the gallery and and you can find out more about it here - http://www.strong-island.co.uk/2013/05/30/camp-bestivals-around-the-world-kids-disco-tour/

7th May - Sunflower

Here is another balloon inspired by Nick in Indonesia, he makes these amazing sunflowers so I had to have a go, you an check out his website at http://www.nicorner.com.

My sunflower is made from 12 balloons, there are 5 yellow 260 balloons, 2 brown 260 balloons and 5 green 260 balloons, I really enjoyed making this one and it looks great in the garden

22nd April - Double Flower

This flower is made from 4 balloons, it consists of 2 flower weaves, the first small flower weave is a 160 balloons, the bigger weave is made from 2 x 260s, the stem is a green 260, it was a bit of an experiment to see what it would look like but I am pleased with the result.

24th March - Daffodil

It seems Spring is struggling to fully arrive so I thought I would try and help out, This is a quick and simple daffodil made from 3 balloons, First I made the petals from a 160, then I added the middle bit (I think its called a corona?), finally I added a stem (which you cant really see).

6th March - New Flower

Today I met some lovely people who taught me how to make a new type of flower, it took me a while to get to know the weave but I got there in the end, this takes just 2 x 160 balloons, 1 for the petals and 1 for the stem. There will be different variations of this flower and weave coming up in the future.

1st February - Bunch of Flowers

Its my Nans Birthday today, her name is Florence and she lives in Jersey, I am not going to tell you how old she is as that would be rude (she's 93), for her birthday my Auntie Caroline suggested I make her a bunch of flowers, sadly I cant really get them to her in Jersey so I will make her some more when she visits later in the year. Happy Birthday Nan xxx

These flowers are made up of 15 balloons, 4 green 260s for the stems, a red 260 for the bow, 2 green 160s for the leafy bits (foliage? is it called that? I am a man, its not something I should know) and then 8 x 160s for the flowers.

23rd January - Tulips

You can make these simple tulips from any sized modelling balloons, these ones are 160s, its a simple apple twist (or is it a tulip twist?, I never know)

17th January - Closed Flower

Not the type of flower I would normally make but I imagine if you were making a bunch of flowers a few of these mixed in might look quite good. 2 balloons for this one
