17th August - Scout

It was months ago I was asked by someone to make a cub or scout, I have finally gotten around to it. This is how I used to dress when I went to the cubs all those years ago, I think I still have my little green cap and woggle somewhere. Hope you like it PJ and sorry it took me ages.

This Cub is made from 11 balloons, I started with the shorts and legs and then added the belt body and feet, next I made the head and added hair, and then the arms, finally I added the hands, hat and the little scarf. The sculpture is made entirely from 260s except for the yellow scarf which is a 160.

I now have 2 tutorials available on MDB extra, the cute bunny and now the plane. they are both available for free on the blog or you can purchase the PDF for a small fee. You can keep up to date with all the MDB news by clicking like on the facebook page at -  https://www.facebook.com/MyDailyBalloon

11th August - Flower Face

This is an idea by Antonio Becarus, I saw him a few months ago and thought this was a clever and cute idea and a great way to use up all your scraps of balloon, there are actually 11 balloons being used here but 6 of those are scraps of left over balloon. I mainly used 260 balloons for this design, the only 2 which are not 260s are the main part of the pot which is a 360 and the base which is a Geo blossom.

16th July - Singin' In The Rain

Its Jenny's Birthday today and she is a big musicals fan and a huge fan of Singin' in the Rain (its one of my favourites too), Here is Gene Kelly singin' in the sunshine today. Happy Birthday Jenny xxx

This sculpture is made from 23 balloons, The Lamp post is made from 11 and the rest make up Gene, I started with the lamp post on this model, making the main stem and base first, there is a hidden weighted balloon weighing it all down and then I added all the rings and the lamp at the top, next came Gene, he is similar to my other people models but I shrank him in size a little as I wanted the lamp post to tower over him.

June 7th - Toy Story Alien

Its film Friday today and its also my birthday, I love all things Pixar and Disney so here is one of the cute little aliens from Toy Story, he is another one I designed myself and I am pretty pleased with how he turned out, will be able to see him in HMV Gunwharf from 5pm this afternoon (7th June) and over the weekend.

He is made from 11 balloons, all a mixture of 160s and 260s, plus a round 11" balloon which makes up the base, it has a small amount of water in it, this stops him from bouncing around too much.

10th May - Starship Enterprise - NCC 1701

I went to the cinema last night, can you guess what I went to see? no, it was not 'Revenge of the Carebears' (thats not out yet), no it was the new Star Trek film (its awesome).

I spent a while yesterday afternoon having a play around with ideas for this starship and nothing worked for me, I have discovered that I make my best balloons in the morning or late at night, but not in the afternoon, what ever I did just was not right. When I got home after seeing the film I had a brainwave and finally worked out how to do the saucer section, the rest just kind of happened. I had also been practicing with grey balloons but after thinking about it for a while it had to be done in white.

It is made from 11 balloons (although I probably went through about 30 in total trying different ideas), there is a 5 inch round, an 11" round, 4 x 350s, 5 x 260s and 1 x 160. I used 4 raisin twists to hold it all together and those proved to be a problem but I got there in the end. I have probably spent more time in this sculpture than I have on any of my other balloons, In total I think I have spent about 3 or 4 hours doing it.

1st April - Easter Bonnet

I had a recent request from my sister to make an Easter bonnet for my little niece Erica, all my nieces and nephews are entering an Easter bonnet parade today and my sister thought it would be a good idea for Erica to have a balloon bonnet.

This photo is NOT a picture of my niece, I decided to use my bear as a model for the bonnet instead, Erica is not quite as hairy as this. The Easter bonnet is in 2 parts, firstly the hat part, it is made from 11 balloons, I started with a flower weave for the main base and then added the outer rim, all I needed to do next was add the flowers around the edge.

The little duckling on top is one of the designs from Dylan Gelinas, he is called Hiccup the duck and is available from Dylans website at http://www.slightlytwistedballoons.com.

23rd March - Snow White

A couple of weeks ago I had a request from Ava to make Snow White, today Ava is being a bridesmaid so thought this would be the perfect opportunity. It has taken me a few weeks to work out a design I actually like with this Snow White, I am still not sure about her face but its not too bad.

This Snow White is made from 11 balloons, first I made her face and hair from 2 x 260 balloons, then I added the bow out of 1 x 160 balloons, her body came next, this was a 260. I next made her arms and sleeves from a 350 and a 160, I then added this to the body and used a little bit of left over arm to make her nose. The next step was her yellow dress from 3 x 260 balloons, the final thing to do was make her apple, this was from a 350 and a little bit of 260 for the stalk.

For those who are interested, here is the shopping list

260 balloons
1 x Black, 1 Blush, 1 Blue, 3 Yellow, 1 Brown,

160 Balloons
1 x Red, 1 x Blush

350 Balloons
1 x Tropical Teal, 1 Red

16th March - Winnie the Pooh

This balloon model came out of a practice run for something else, I started to make one thing then suddenly diverted into making Winnie the Pooh.

Winnie is made from 11 balloons (I think), I started with the head from a yellow 260 sized balloon then added the nose with a bit of black. The tummy came next from another 260 and then I added the red t-shirt to to top of this from a 260, next I made the legs and feet from another 260 and finally I added the arms from 1 x red 260 and 1 x yellow 260s.

The Honey (or Hunny) pot is made from a 350 and a 160 with a little bit of left over 260 for the knob on top, finally the blue round 5 inch balloon is made from a blue round 5 inch balloon (no surprise there then).

I drew the bees in Photoshop and added them on afterwards.

7th February - Photographer

As many of you know I am a keen photographer and during my time using flickr I discovered a photographer called Andrew Whyte, I have to say his work is awesome, I mean really awesome, you should check out some of his long exposures sometime ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/andwhynot/ ).

Anyway, Andrew was kind enough to give me a plug on his facebook page and so in return I am saying thanks by dedicating today's balloon to him.

Mini Andrew is made up from 11 balloons, firstly I made the face and hair out of 260s, then a 350 for the body with a 260 for the sleeves, the trousers and belt are another 260 followed by another one for the shoes. next I added another 260 for the lower arms. that part took me about 20-25 mins.

The camera was much harder, it took me a while and 3 attempts  to work out how to make a camera so this took me about 40-50 mins, first the lens which is made from a 350 and a 160, then the camera body which is a 350. finally the tripod is made from both a 260 and a 160.

So thanks for the plug Andrew, If anyone else would like to spread the word about my blog then I would really like that, you will probably end up getting a balloon dedicated to you (Stu, yours is coming up in a few days).
