18th August - Hello Kitty

Let me ask you a question, how do you say hello to Hello Kitty? do you say hello Hello Kitty? and what if you are on first name terms with her? then you might just say hello Hello? I am just wondering what I would do if I bumped into her on the street one day. This Hello Kitty is made from 8 balloons (I did use some scraps), they are all 260s except for the ears and hair which are 160s.

Big things are going to be happening to the My Daily Balloon website so keep a watch out for those changes soon.

I now have 3 tutorials available on MDB extra - http://mydailyballoonextra.blogspot.co.uk/, the cute bunny, the plane and now a dolphin. they are all available for free on the blog or you can purchase the PDF for a small fee. 25th July - Thomas the Tank Engine

Its Philip's birthday today, he is my nephew and earlier in the year he requested a Thomas the Tank Engine, I did make a more simple Thomas back on March 20th but I wanted to do a more complicated one today. I hope you have a very happy birthday Phil.

This Thomas is made from 13 balloons, I started with the face which is a 5" round and a bit of white balloon for the nose, I then added an inner core (which you cant see) from a 350, the main tank and funnel were next, they are a 260 and a 160 and then cane the red 160s around the base, the cab and roof came next and finally I added the wheels and artwork on the face.

24th July - Mr Tall

There is a Birthday to celebrate today, its the birthday of Sean Lobban (aka The Amazing Mister Tall). Sean is a balloon modeller and I have ballooned with him on many occasions. To help celebrate Sean's birthday I have made Mr Tall from the Mr Men books, Happy Birthday Sean.

Mr Tall here is made 5 balloons, I made his body first from a round balloon and put in 2 raisin twists for the arms which are a 160, the legs are also a 160 and are joined onto the knot in the round balloon, his feet are a 160 and the base is a sand filled round balloon.

29th June - Spongebob Squarepants

I didn't do a film Friday this week because it was Dom's birthday, so instead I am doing a celebrity Saturday, Its Spongebob Squarepants with his tennis racket for Wimbledon.

I recently learnt how to make an awesome Spongebob while on a balloon event this week, Robbie Furman had a brilliant and quick Spongebob, I wanted to change a few things and add a few bits so I changed the design a little and came up with this.

I think he is made from 16 balloons. You can keep up to date with all the latest news and sculptures by heading over to Facebook -www.facebook.com/mydailyballoon and hitting the 'like' button.

26th May - Peppa Pig

I recently had a special request on Facebook, the request was for a Peppa Pig for a little girls birthday today. I don’t actually know the name of the little girl but I think she will know who she is.

Peppa here is made from 7 balloons, the head is a heart shaped balloon and the rest is made from 160 balloons. I am currently in Birmingham attending a 2 day balloon event so I actually made this Peppa Pig on Monday, however I saw someone make an awesome and different Peppa Pig today so I may make that one later in the year.

2nd June - Mr Happy

This Mr Happy is not too difficult to make, you just need to practice your raisin twists, you need 2 raisin twists to make this chap, 1 for each arm, he is made from 1 x round balloon and 2 x 260s.

Today I am doing a live balloon sculpture at the Aspex Gallery in Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, it is to help celebrate the Camp Bestival Around the World Tour, between the hours of 11am and 2pm I will be creating my biggest sculpture of the year so far (at nearly 6 feet across and 5 feet tall, eeek) there will be lots of other activities taking place in the gallery and and you can find out more about it here - http://www.strong-island.co.uk/2013/05/30/camp-bestivals-around-the-world-kids-disco-tour/, The sculpture you can see online on Monday.

22nd May - Mr Tickle

Here is one for the kids (of all ages), its Mr Tickle, I used to love the Mr Men so I had to do some of the Mr Men characters at some point in my blog,

Mr Tickle is made from 6 balloons, I started with an 11 inch orange round balloon and created 4 raisin twists, 1 for each arm and leg (if you don't know what a raisin twist is then the clue is in the name, it involves a raisin sized scrap of tied up balloon put inside an inflated balloon and then used as an anchor point)

I then added the hat, this is made from a bit of 350 and a 160, it is then attached to the knot of the orange balloon. The Arms come next, these are 2 orange 160s attached to the first 2 raisin twists, then the legs are made from half an orange 260 each, again they are attached to the last 2 raisin twists.

If you are unfamiliar with balloon modelling and balloon sizes then here is a guide - a 160 balloon is 1 inch diameter and 60 inches long, a 260 is 2" by 60" long, 350 is 3" by 50", you also get 5" rounds which are exactly what it says on the packet - 5 inch and round, then there are 11" rounds. There are a host of other shapes and sizes including donuts, bees and hearts but keep watching and I will tell you about those when I use them next.

21st May - Scooby-Doo

This Scooby-Doo is made from 12 balloons, it is totally my own design and I have spent the last day or 2 thinking about it and working it out and this is the result. The shopping list for this sculpture is
2 x Mocha 160, 1 x Blush 160, 1 x Pale blue 160, 1 x yellow 160, 1 x white 260, 1 x black 260, 4 x mocha 260s, 1 x mocha 350.

On a totally unrelated subject, it was old Mrs Jenkins who was dressed up as the Calamity school ghost and scaring all those pesky kids in order to steal the St Claremont diamond, Scoobydoobydoooooooooooo!!!

10th February - Dennis the Menace

Stu Monroe recently gave my blog a plug and so this balloon is dedicated to him, Stu is an cartoonist, he has a brilliant cartoon strip called Ray the Otter and has drawn various cartoon strips for the Dandy (including Beryl the Peril) and currently draws for my favourite childhood comic, the Beano.

So as a thank you and congratulations for your achievements, here is Dennis the Menace, He is made from roughly 1 million balloons (well it seemes like it), actually its 15 balloons, firstly his face is a 260, then his hair is in 2 layers, a first flat layer of black and then the spikes added on top, this took 4 x 160s.

Next came his body, 1 red and 1 black 260, his shorts are another 260 and then his legs and shoes are 2 more 260s. Now I added his arms (another 260). finally I made a catapult from a 160, 2 hands from a 160, socks from another 160 and a nose from a last 160.

Denis the Menace took me about 90 mins, this was mainly because I didnt really know what I was doing and was making it up as I went, next time I make him I think I would make his body broader (he is too skinny),

1st Jan - Pilchard the Cat

I have been thinking of a new daily project for some time now and in the back of my mind I have had the idea of balloons, When people ask me how many balloons models I can make I often reply with 4-5 hundred different balloon models, I know I can do at least 300 as I counted them up about 10 years ago however I am sure I can do lots more.

So here it is My Daily Balloon, Day 1 is a special request from Nat, Its Pilchard the Cat from the kids TV show Bob the Builder. He is made from 1 x 260 balloon.
